Slow and Steady CrazyAmphibian - 21/aug/2026

there hasn't been too much to report. mostly just going at modeling. i'm not very good at it, so the models are both taking a while, and are not exactly super detailed. regardless, they are at the least good enough for this project.

my main concern really is about the texturing work. i've been doing my best with what i can find online that is both suitable for the game, and has a license that is permissive. I found a site with some pretty good textures that will work for the time being, so there's that at least.

oh and hey, the terrain is (for the most part) complete! well, i still need to get the distant low detail terrain added, but it should take less time to do that, though i will wait for later in development to get to that.

and besides that, i've also been doing some under the hood changes, too. tweaking the lighting shaders a bit, adding a modular configuration system, and also getting a good localization and subtitle system in. i'm not exactly sure what languages will be available. well, obviously english. buuuut, there's some complications in that.
Historically i've had E translate into brazilian portugese, though he's stepped away from games, and is living a quite busy life.
and the greek and japanese localizations were one-offs from people who aren't really on the studio.
the japanese one was done by someone who did it for his own reasons and asked for no compensation.
and the greek one was done by the composer for the game he made music for, so...
well, whatever, if nothing else i can just hire someone to do it. that or just not localize it.

you might say "well why not?" and that's because it really slows down development. A big factor to me not developing Conformer post release is that i'd have to coordinate with 3 other people who aren't involved in the slightest with the game. it's quite disparaging, but it's the fate i made for myself because i got greedy with translations. no shade to them, by the way, they did a great job. i think. i don't speak the languages, so maybe they didn't. but, i'm going to believe they did.

regardless, that's a definitive "problem for future me", so have fun, future me.
