Modeling sucks ass CrazyAmphibian - 4/jul/2026

so, the next project in the lineup is likely to be 3D. This poses many new challenges, not the least being making models. And unless i want to use freecad (terrible UX), or shell out money for professional software (too expensive), i'm stuck with Blender.
of course, an issue presents itself: Blender's interface is esoteric. Now you might think "just look it up, dummy" but you'd be very mistaken, because most of the time the tutorial is about an outdated version (that works differently), requires a ton of preexisting knowledge (good luck), or you just can't find it because you need to look up the very specific technical term for what you want that you don't know because you're not a professional 3D modeler.

This process is, on a good day, frustrating as hell. One must wonder how anyone manages to pick it up, given how agonizing it is to figure out how to do the most basic of things. Eventually, though, you will figure out how to do things. You'll spend an hour making a glorified cube and wonder what you're doing with your time, but EVENTUALLY! you will figure out the bare minimum. and the bare minimum i learned.

No, the models aren't that great. Nor are they high fidelity, but at least the latter of those two issues can be chalked up to "stylistic" choices. at the least it means it can run of a potato.
But, at the least, models are being made. It's better than nothing, and with geometric models an incompetent modeler doesn't really matter all that much.
